  • A genuine rock band of the highest order, Come Around Sundown is the exhilarating fifth studio album from Kings of Leon.

Hot on the heels of their Grammy-nominated bestseller, 'Only By The Night', the Tennessee quartet have once again collaborated with producers Angelo Petraglia and Jacquire King for another 13 tracks of guitar-dominated greatness. Lead singer Caleb Followill's distinctive vocals are continually at the forefront, with no better example of his baritone presence than on the excellent single "Radioactive." For all their vocal and six-stringed dominance, Kings of Leon are more of a unit than ever. Direct, punchy and often thrilling, the winning blend of alternative and southern rock has never sounded so polished.

With two BRIT awards, three top five albums and a plethora of stadium tours under their wing, the band have been quickly elevated to worldwide superstars. The release of Come Around Sundown, their most complete recording to date, can only enhance their bourgeoning status.

I managed to get this album quite early, i had heard songs such as radioactive and pyro as singles and i really enjoyed them. These songs gave me a bit more hope for this album because i was such a huge fan of because of the times and only by the night.

As i progressed into the album it began to feel weaker, not bad, but definately weaker than previous albums. I did enjoy a change and at times it almost sounded like folk or country music in the style they played and how he sang.

Alot of the backing and lead guitar is lovely to listen to, providing catchy and heart warming sounds, again vocally he is soo powerful you can feel the emotion throughout each song which i think gives this band an edge as they can also repeat a fantastic set live, many other bands fail to do this and therfore makes them unique.

As i am basing this review off my hopes that they would be better than before i would have to give it a 3/5 because even though 3-4 of the 13 songs i extremely enjoyed i have heard much better. Never the less i would expect a KOL fan to pick this album up and other listeners because it is a decent album that has just decided for a slight change which im not the most keen on but others may be.

A long wait for a dissapointing album

I personally do not think that this album really gets going. Its catchy in some ways but fails to deliver like their earlier albums. Personally I feel like they have sold out to the mainstream. Not happy as was a big fan but not so much these days.

I went to see Kings of Leon off the back of the Only By The Night Album. I thoroughly enjoyed the gig with songs like 'Genius' and 'Trani' making it out there, but then i was surrounded by people who came to life when they heard 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody' but never heard a peep from them afterwards.

I can't wait to go and see them in December to hear the likes of 'The End' and 'Pony Up' and especially 'Pyro' and hopefully there will only be true KOL fans there who appreciate them for their song writing skills and performances, and not from what they hear on the radio and TV.

I can't say which album is my favourite, because they are all so different, but this album is class, no two ways about that =- and people who truly like KOL will realise that

 A absolutely quality album.

I also managed to get hold of this album early. Come Around Sundown provides an astonishing mix of some down and dirty southern infused rock, goosepimply vocalised slower tracks and suprisingly a much heavier country and western influence than previous albums. It has managed to incorporate some of the raw, edgy style found in KOL's first 2 albums, but at the same time provides a progressive, more mature sound than the last album, proving KOL are not one trick ponies, or an indie teen fan factory. They are here to stay. I would go so far as to say that Radioactive is possibly one of the worst songs on this album, even though I still really like the track. Emotionally charged, powerful vocals throughout, that make the hairs on the back of your neck. The kind of album you put on LOUD when you're driving home in the middle of the night....BUY IT

Brilliant!!! One of the best albums of the year!!
