     their 'pop' album

if i was to rank the Cocteau Twins' albums this would be 3rd after Blue Bell Knoll and Treasure.

commercially this was heir most successful album and its easy to see why. people always describe the likes of Madonna or Michael Jackson's Thriller as being 'perfect-pop'. in my view the title track of this album is 'perfect pop' while never losing sight of the bands' indie roots. the track Heaven Or Las Vegas is phenomenal and easily amongst the bands finest moments. Frou Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires is much darker and begins intimately, before outgrowing itself and transforming into a multilayered, almost menacing creature. Fifty Fifty Clown is quite minimalist while Liz Fraser's vocals are marshalled perfectly by Simon Raymonde's bass.

while this is the Twins' 'pop' album, they always maintain a firm indie grip on their music, incorporating the special and unique elements of their past onto their present. this is indie guitar-pop at its finest.
