This album is nearly awesome. It is a 13 track album that is very, very good. It could quite easily have been a superb 10 track album by leaving off Sometimes, Pulse and the terrible Milky Way clone If You Want It.

Having said that there are many examples here of early OMD genius. Highlights are New Babies New Toys, History of Modern (part 1), Sister Marie Says, Green, Bondage of Fate and The Right Side. All of which exude the brilliance that OMD have always stood for.

Don't hesitate, go buy this album. It will be one of the best you've bought this decade, it just could have been a tad better.

Huge fan of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark but they should not have done this. It's dancing on the grave of what they did create when they were...well creative! It's like they went up into the attic, found old demos of very poor ideas along with all their old synth/drum machine and electronics, plugged them in and away they went. There is nothing on this album that represents their legacy apart form a history of sickly sweet 'pap' singles that were weak at the time of release. The lyrics are so bad they hurt the ears and the so-called catchy songs are filler-central. Where are the creations like Stanlow, Sealand, International, Romance Of The Telescope or Never Turn Away? All those tracks are benchmarks of their sound, vision and emotion all of which are sadly absent from this LP. It's cheep to think you can add a choral sample or a Mellotron choir to a track and think that makes it a true OMD song... as a fan I expect more than dressing up old 90's demos with retro synths and calling it classic OMD. No, classic OMD wrote songs for themseleves first and NEVER to a formila.

Times change.

Gerry.

 A good comeback

What a great album ! Its so good to hear the original OMD sound coming through, I lost faith a bit with Universal. I love the modern beats and refreshed synth soundworks, it matters not if they re-visited some older demo's or ideas, these are the things that made them great. Those that criticize the poppiness or mainstream should really be shutting themselves in a shed with some headphones and yearning for the long lost days of Pink Floyd !
When I first heard Sister Marie Says on the radio, I was so glad that OMD were back on the scene, like being transported back to the Eighties freshness. As I write this review I'm going through the album, I'm yet to find a bad track.
Notable tracks to me are: Sister Marie Says, Pulse, RFWK, New Babies New Toys.
My car stereo will enjoy those thick basslines and lucious pads on many a journey. If you are a true OMD fan and love your pop synthy, then this is a must. If you are fed up with the chinless wonders churned out on 'talent' shows, see how real bands who write their own stuff make a sound that lasts.
