3 Elton John Meets The Scissor Sistersuncleaddyb | 27/04/2007 | See all uncleaddyb's reviews (54)Top 100 Reviewer Top 10 Music Reviewer Mika burst onto the scene amongst a huge buzz with Grace Kelly, one part Elton John one part Scissor Sisters with a hint of Freddie Mercury thrown in. It was a fantastic track which was never gonna fail, a true modern classic. Anyone hoping for an album full of such pop gems will probably end up disappointed. The problem isn't that the songs are bad, tracks like Love Today and Big Girl are great catchy songs with big choruses and could both be big hits, it's that it's just too much at times. It feels like it's all show and no sincerity, some of his lyrics come across as naive, and on tracks like Lollipop and Billy Brown he's just annoying. If you're looking for an album that's all bright and brezzy pop songs then look no further, however if you're looking for an album full of tracks as good as Grace Kelly then Mika hasn't yet managed to produce it. Although there's no doubt about his talent so give him a couple of years and he may well manage to do just that.
