The Promise (2CD)

The pure talent of Springsteen is revealed through his release of tracks that he left in his bottom drawer for nearly four decades. These two cds have it all - what I initially thought were covers (being so young, obviously ;) ) in "Fire" and "Because the Night"; through echoes of the Born to Run and Darkness days, to contemporary style boppy Magic-type songs such as "Ain't Good Enough for You." A bonus is the cd packaging with photos and all the lyrics of the tracks with text from Springsteen detailing the album's history, which reminded me of buying Born to Run on vinyl all those years ago. Thank you Bruce - any more in your drawers for us?!

This is a fantastic album. The tunes on here are as good as those on Darkness, if not better (there I said it!). There is freshness, spontaneity and enjoyment from the band on every track here. The alt version of Fire is cool. Don't hesitate, just buy.

For the Bruce fans, this is awesome. This has a knockout first cd, BUT the second cd in my eyes is even better. Brilliant versions of Racing in the street and Fire, this is Bruce at his best. Pure class

Having got the limited edition of this on 3 vinyl lp's at Crimbo, The Boss shows that even though this is streets better than most new stuff, the stripped back version of Racing in The Streets on "Darkness" still edges it for me. Fantastic stuff though, proving that Bruce was ahead of his time musically back in the early days. An essential purchase for all fans or for newcomers (where have you been???), this is the pick of his earlier material

this is his best todate! A must have for anyone! And a really good price.
