I have many friends, who upon hearing me play Joanna Newsom as I drive along, give me the weirdest look as I try to justify this album as a 'driving album'.

I love this album, I really do, due to many songs appealing to me, and just feeling right. Her voice is not the most appealing of things on first listen, it will take a while. But songs like Sprout and the Bean are ones that will accustom you to hear voice, and help you to see the delicacies of it.

But again, if you do not like her voice, you will not like the album, no question. She is an amazing harpist, but that will not save an album. The album is disjointed, it never really gets going, or flows. Because of which, you can find yourself skipping many tracks, to try and make it something enjoyable.

But deep down, there is something stirring within this album that shows potential, which is very much realised on her follow up Ys, which I would reccomend. However, key songs to listen to on here include Bridges… more »
