  • From the first grinding notes of the famous vamp that introduces "Whole Lotta Love", LED ZEPPELIN II announces for all to hear that they are the definitive hard rock band of their generation. But before the listener can even settle into the groove, things takes a hard left turn into a spacey new rhythm, exotically flavoured by Page's droning feedback and innovative use of a violin bow. By tune's end, Zeppelin has repeatedly toyed with the listener's expectations.
This subversive quality distinguishes most of the arrangements on LED ZEPPELIN II, as in the soft/hard dynamic shifts of "What Is And What Should Never Be", the gospelish mood of "Thank You", the rocking vamps and funk rhythms of "Heartbreaker" and "Living Loving Maid", and the country music echoes of "Ramble On". And in their appropriations of source materials from Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, and Sonny Boy Williamson, Page and company continued to mine the rich vein of the blues.

 Zeppelin, the band to beat.

This album really cemented zeppelin as a formiddable force within the rock scene at the time, spawning hard rock. The menacing riff for whole lotta love kicks the record into gear, known as one zeppelins greatest songs. Thankyou changes the tone, a gorgeous ballad. Plant gives one of his finest vocal performances and Jones plays beautifully on his Hammond organ. Closing things out is Moby Dick, a showcase for rocks greatest drummer, Bonzo.

This album deseves a Whole Lotta Love!

First things first: Led Zeppelin were/are the finest rock band ever created, period!
With that fact out of the way, how does this album shape up?
For a recording that's nearly 40 years old, you'll be hard pressed to find a better sounding rock album than this. In their prime Zeppelin were/are simply THE rock band that all other rock bands must be judged by. Led Zeppelin II is up there with their finest work and in my opinion is arguably better than the more celebrated "Four Symbols".
Each track is a bona fide classic-from the hard rock power of "Whole Lotta Love" to the majestic beauty of "Thank You" and the blues stomp of "Bring It On Home", there really is something for every rock music lover.
Infact , why are you wasting time reading this, when you could be enjoying the sheer quality of this album!
If you're new to Zeppelin this is a great way to start your love affair!
So forget your Emo, or what ever manufactured, processed pap serves as rock music today and order this timeles album!
ROCK ON!!!!

 Simply brilliant.

This Led Zeppelin 2 album is IMHO simply one of the best albums they ever produced and is the stuff of legend, I bought the original LP version when it came out all those years ago, and will now buy the CD version from Play.com. The music is great try listening to Whole lotta love through decent headphones, and crank the volumme up, wow.

Simply the greatest rock band that i have ever had the pleasure to listen to. My father has always and will continue to admire, idolise and truly love this band- he introduced Led Zeppelin to me at a young age, infact "whole lotta Love" is the first rock song i can ever remember listening to. Without a doubt, there will NEVER be another led zeppelin- pure class, incredible music and energy- straight up,balls out rock and roll!
