Konk, The Kooks new album
it is brilliant
touching from the lyrics from "one last time"
to the known lyrics of "always were i need to be"
but its not as good as there first album
i admit they have tried very hard
and i congratulate them on that:)

Ignore the latest negative review.........why do people just like the one song thats been released already!! Poor critics..

Great album from start to finish. Lots of hits will come from this album - guaranteed!! Musically alot better than last album, lyrically just as good - most songs are kinda relationship based.

Tracks 4-11 are all great - no skippers. Must have CD of 2008..............hoping the Pigeon Detectives come up with something as good on 2nd album......

Top 100 Music Reviewer

This album is no where near as good as their 1st.

The only decent song on here is the single Always Where I Need To Be.

Not a good album.
Bad!

For a second album, this one grows on you, but after a few listens, this definately rates as the album for the summer here in Provence! Again... tip top!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Love it!!

i got this album the day before i went to see a gig they played in Newport. usually with albums it takes a good few plays before i decide if i like it or not.. the first play of this got me hooked and iv been playing it ever since in the gym and at home.. its got some catchy tunes.. my faves so far include the released single.. sway, shine on, mister Maker (brill) Love it all. i would have to say i think all of these will be as popular as the first album diamonds that shone out.

for all those people that say they have not put effort in, they are very wrong, they were fab live and the album will not disappoint u at all!!

With a huge debut album already under their belts, the Kooks had their work cut out with the notoriously tricky second album. With two years since the release of their first album, the Kooky boys had plenty of time to muster up another gem.

Unfortunately, this isn't it. A poor effort with no tracks with the real singalong factor of Seaside, no energetic Eddie's Gun or You Don't Love me or young romance of Naive or She's Moves in her own way.

The first single is much the best offering in this album, with much of the rest merging into one big track with no real passion.

Iside in/Inside Out was the ultimate indie guilty peasure, jangly singalongs, overflowing with HITS and such a knack for plain great songs. Luke Pritchard promised us a more rocky version of this for the sophomore effort, unfortunatlely he hasn't delivered.

THere is one song that comes close to the promise, "Always where I need to be" is up their with their best singles, a true stormer that made this follow up a tasty follow up, but the rest of the album reeks of trying too hard to make classic pop like their debut.
"Mr Maker" is a wannabee 21st century "Well respected man" but what seems like irony in a song so intent on appealing to a broad audience may just be real stupidity at work. Cheesy guitar solos and heavier basslines populate the album which really isn't why I loved the Kooks so much, and it never could be, the lyrics are borderline moronic and mostly filler, showing little in the way of brains or heart. (e.g nonsensical "Sway" or the horny idiot protaganist in "Do you wanna") Luke comes off as egotistical, dishonest and just trying too hard to please.

There's no denying there are some catchy moments, "Sway" may not be the "America" sized hit they were looking for, but its catchy, and there is something here if you can ignore the verses, but the high moments are few and far between, especially after the first few tracks, it'll be hard to recapture the audience with a third album, but if they can find what made them special again their careers may not be done for just yet, this album doesn't kill it, but it beats their credibility at least half to death, And it would seem they may be a flash in the pan.
