Myths Of The Near Future

Novelty band huh? Atlantis to Interzone is their only trick you say? Dear, dear, dear. How wrong you are. And indeed, how wrong I was. I really wasn't expecting much here. Gravity's Rainbow was one of my favourite tracks of 2006, but after hearing Golden Skans before the album came out, I thought they'd ruined all that hard work.

I had the Xan Valleys EP also, and 4 Horsemen sounded plain wrong. On that EP it sounds like a group of Daily Mail readers chasing a paedophile who is wearing a Pro EU T-shirt.

Looking at the track list before this album came out, 5 of the 11 tracks I'd heard before. And 2 of them I already didn't enjoy.

But somehow, this album fits together amazingly. Golden Skans sounds good, mainly because it doesn't have all that background noise that plagues the video. Gravity's Rainbow has been reworked and sounds as good as ever, and even 4 Horsemen has been cleaned up drastically. As for the new tracks, they fit into their established sound… more »

My only criticism is a minor one, and that it that Atlantis to Interzone does seem slightly out of place. I'm sure they couldn't afford, from a marketing point of view, to leave it out. But it is easily the black sheep of the group. The Bouncer evidently WAS poor enough to miss out. I concur.

All in all, a great album which although is pure Klaxons, still managed to surprise me.
