Another 5 star review, which could ask the question, does this band ever produce anything less, and the answer is NO. This is Daniel Gildenlow asking questions about God himself, and whilst I cannot begin to understand at the same level as to what he is getting at over the whole album, who cares - the music and lyrics are superb. Some critics panned this on release, and it does take a lot of listening to. Believe me, you wont like it on first hearing. However, you have to persevere to appreciate it. And with time, you will begin to hear things differently, and be staggered as to what has been achieved here. "Vocari Dei" may bring you to tears, but the climax, starting with "Omni Permanere" and moving on to the stand out track "Iter Impius Martignea" is nothing short of superb. I may well be in the minority, but this CD is, in my view, Pain of Salvation's best attempt to date, but I have a sneaky feeling they will get even better.
This album is just amazing in every way. The music is some of the best I have ever heard, the lyrics are absolutely inspired and it is just a brilliant, brilliant concept album.
It looks at different aspects of religion, and Gildenlow does a brilliant job of putting across every point he makes.
I could listen to the album over and over again and never get bored. The lyrics are even picturesque in places and this really influences the quality of the album as a whole.
Also, there is a live DVD of this entire album as a performance which is spectacular, and immediately one of the best live DVDs you will ever see, and Gildenlow really seems to enjoy himself in it :P
Be is the 5th studio album by Pain of Salvation and its concept deals with the existence of God and humans. It's set in a fictional world and it begins with a narration. It's an album filled with beautiful melodies, contrast and sounds just like a soundtrack at some points. The band also performed it as a Rock Opera which was published as "BE" live DVD. Pain of Salvation had an orchestra play with them in this album, called "The orchestra of eternity"
This album is almost impossible to review acurately. You'll have to listen for yourself. It's an album you'll either love or hate. There are no inbetweens.
