 A masterpiece with a theme

In many ways this is Avrils best album to date, a masterpiece with a theme.

This combines the innocent, pop sounding early days of "Let Go" with the darker, deeper, and more emotional side of "Under My Skin" with all of the powerful, indulgent pianno driven choruses that made that album so rich in sound and composition

There are some very interesting musical arrangements in this album and Avril has been given the freedom to help her find her sound. This album, given the theme is in complete contrast to "The Best Damn Thing" with only "What The Hell" and "Smile" to remind us of the best sounds explored in her last album.

The general theme which is present throughout the whole album is to try and look on the bright side of a bad situation. You can tell Avril has put her heart and soul in to this album and it is very meaningful and the result is something that is not too overproduced at all, rightfully subdued where it needs to be and really allows her voice to cut through the mix.

"Wish You Were Here" is not a cover of the classic Pink Floyd song, the only similarity are that the two happen to share the same name. This is an original song, and is Avril at her best both lyrically and vocally.

"Smile" is a very upbeat song with a very catchy chrorus, very original and possibly one of her best songs.

"Everybody Hurts" is not a cover of the classic R.E.M song but I do feel that Avril may have used that song as an inspiration for her song. The theme of the song is exactly the same as R.E.M's and tbh I don't think anyone could better R.E.M's version but Avrils version is genious, it really is amazing lyrically and vocally!

 Avril's back :D

Well, Avril Lavigne is back, and she's better than ever!! This album is a long time overdue in my opinion! It goes back to her Let Go/Under My Skin days, where she writes from the heart, and you can really tell this in her songs. Ones to listen out for are: Push, Wish You Were Here, Smile, Darlin and Goodbye (the last one being one of the most emotional songs I have ever heard!) I think for 2 quid more this deluxe edition is worth it, as you get additional songs (some acoustic, showing off Avril's amazing voice) and a making of DVD. 4 years we've waited for this, and it was worth every second :) if you haven't bought it yet, what the hell is wrong with you?!! Highly recommend

This certainly shows avril is more mature than she's ever been. This album is her strongest yet i would argue.
What you get is the enthusiasm of her first album, the growing of the second album, the fun of her third and now the darkness, but maturity of avril as she is now. But don't let the word darkness put you off,it still has several fun rocking moments. Her singing really is at it's very best here,i'd forgotten just how well she can sing,i was really impressed by this.
I would certainly recommend getting this deluxe version, not only do you get the extra tracks (including a great cover of JOAN JETT'S "BAD REPUTATION"),but you also get a very good half hour DVD showing her excitement in making this album, and the love she clearly has for it.
Truely great stuff from a great singer with much left to offer. A thrill from Avril.

 Fantastic Album

I have got all of Avril's album and they just keep getting better. I have listened to the album 4 or 5 times now since it was released on Monday and each time it is better. Some great tracks on the album and well worth purchasing
