A superior covers album from our very own 'Supreme'. Beverley Knight MBE is one of the all-time great British vocalists. Her genre-crossing voice could sing anything and it would sound good. I suspect Miss K may face criticism from some quarters for seemingly playing it safe. But if you geddit then this is a seriously good and heartfelt tribute album so buy it without reservation. Catching Bev live on the accompanying DVD is a bonus but to see her live in person is to appreciate a national treasure in her natural environment. A winner all the way!
Now the first bit is from a Duffy review i did: Soul is a very overused word in musotalk. It can mean slow, soppy stuff so I refer to Staxsoul if I am talking about the stuff made famous by Wilson Pickit, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave et all. The prob is they were old, fat guys! Now Beverley is a pretty lady who sings well enough to be soul, in fact 'come as you are' is my personal soul fave. Job done.
Saw Bev perform this at the Porchester hall and i have to say Beverley is the UK's best singer and without a doubt criminally underrated. This song consists of 12 amazing covers which mixes funky soul and amazing songs such as one more try and i love you for always that can make you cry. If you like Adele, take a punt on this as this is music as it should be.
