 A stunning solo debut

I confess to being a little apprehensive when I first heard Inhaler. Come Closer helped to restore my faith and by the time I heard the fantastic Rearrange Id already pre-ordered this album.

Colour of the Trap manages to sound both vintage and fresh. Nostalgic and original. This album boasts such a wide range of sounds and styles almost as varied as the names that collaborated with Kane: from Noel Gallagher to Alex Turner. From Gruff Rhys to French actress Clemence Poesy.

This album has all the essential ingredients: catchy singles, touching love songs, great rock great guitar, sharp lyrics, melancholy strumming even stylish cover art and lyrics in the inlet book thing. Its adventurous and seductive, slow and beautiful, stylish and classy, fast and rocky, light and infectious, exciting and sharp, deep and surprising.

Kane insures that every track sounds different and new, and manages to avoid the trap (no pun intended) of sticking to a formula throughout the entire album and sounding repetitive. The start to Quicksand could be Magic Numbers its so light and poppy. The first few lines of My Fantasy reminds me of the Kinks somehow, the string guitar on Take The Night From Me evokes Italian love songs, whereas the track after that, Telepathy, is a completely different beast, dark and reminiscent of some of the Rascals tunes, but with an unmistakable Turner twist.
The title track, Colour Of The Trap, is just beautiful.

The sheer range of this album surprised me. Not what I expected, but everything I hoped for. Simply put this album has everything. There is not a single duff track on the whole thing. If you were put off by early singles such as Inhaler or Come Closer then dont be, they dont represent the scope or range of this album at all.

A true breath of fresh air and a sign of great things to come!

Apart from the penultimate song 'Better Left Invisible' lifted from the great JL's 'Cold Turkey', a good album and a grower. Which is not to say there aren't some immediate moments. Mr Kane has cemented his reputation as one of the great guitarists and even though a certain Mr Turner shares songwriting credits on six tracks a comparison is unfair. The Little Flames were great as is everything else he has done apart from the unfortunate Rascals album but buy this and savour!

 Fresh and sweet

I only checked this album out because Miles' voice was so familiar but I couldn't place it (Last Shadow Puppets and The Rascals), loved the sound of Rearrange on the radio so just ordered it! Stunning, exciting album - his voice, in places, is reminiscent of Marc Bolan which is no bad thing. This is one album I want everyone to listen to - it has a classic feel with a real contemporary twist.

 A few good tracks but

not amazing. He supported Kasabian on their tour and you just can't compare really. Gives 100 percent but just something missing. The albums certainly worth a listen to, and for a fiver it's not bad value either.
