 Masterpiece!!

I'll keep this short and to the point...
This is DT at their best! Portnoy may have been replaced but maybe that's just what the band needed. It's evident here that there's a different chemistry at work. Think of this as a blend of all DT previous albums and you'll get the feel of what to expect! Metal, prog, melodies to die for, oh and more prog!
The weakest link on the album for me was the first track, on the backs of angels. Just an average DT song, nothing new. But the track 2 kicks off the blistering tornado that is the rest of the album! No skip tracks in sight!
Buy this and get a Masterpiece that will keep you suckling for more and more!

On the backs of angels is Pull me under 2...
Outcry is Metropolis 2 (and I refer to original Metropolis, not Scenes)
Breaking all illusions is Learning to live 2, while Far from heaven is to Breaking all illusions what Wait for sleep was to Learning to live...
This is the life sounds like Another day 2...
Build me up, break me down reminds me of You, Not Me, but how should it sound like if it was more prog than mainstream...
And for the observative listener there are bits and pieces of Awake, Scenes, Train of thought etc everywhere...

And most of all, the above similarities have to do with the structures and the feelings of the songs, because as always music is
FRESH and ORIGINAL throughout the whole album!

This is much superior to Black clouds, Systematic chaos, Octavarium or Train of thought etc

This is an album than reminds us why Dream theater are considered as one of the greatest of the last 20 years in the industry.

And this is a disc that stands beside Images and Scenes as a true MASTERPIECE !

Too pity, it had to be Portnoy's departure the catalyst for delivering such a piece of Heaven...

For everyone who considers buying this album, it will be the best spent dollars/euros you spent on an album for a long time!

Don't miss it, no matter what!

Storming back to their best!!!!, The best album since Scenes

Although I enjoyed 'Black Clouds and Silver Linings' and 'Systematic Chaos', I felt Dream Theater were doing things by the numbers and was a bit sceptical about the new album. I saw them live in Leeds and the energy that the band gave off with new drummer Mike Mangini was infectious. I felt that this boded well for the new album and, boy, was I right. This is the best album that Dream Theater have done since 'Scenes From a Memory' and will stand the test of time. The new drummer has fit in seamlessly and the song writing is superlative. Check out 'This Is The Life' and 'Outcry' for meaningful lyrics. There is not a duff track on the album and you will keep listening to it for a long time. Stand out tracks are the 2 already mentioned as well as 'Build Me Up, Break Me Down' and 'Breaking All Illusions' but, as already mentioned, there are no poor tracks at all!!
This heralds a new era for Dream Theater and their fans and, I can say with certainty, if it carries on in this vein, lets hope they go another 20 years !!!!!

 Thank you DT!

The more I listen to this cd, the more I like it. It's such an amazing adventure. All the songs sound fresh and inspiring and are full of rejuvenating energy. All I want to say is thank you to this incredible band for taking us, the fans, to a magic musical journey every time they release a new album. Without a doubt, it's one of the best bands around nowadays!

 Believe the hype!

Best Cd since Scenes From A Memory. If you're a fan you should've bought it already by now. Bye Mike, thanks for the memories but the boys seem to be better off without you. A+
