I was attracted to this album by, of all things, a TV ad for spectacles! Piaf died when I was very young, but I have vague memories of her, and my parents' admiration. What impresses here is the sheer vocal power of this very small woman - as much as, or more than, the modern opera diva or amplified "pop" chanteuse. Not only are there several familiar songs here (even to younger ears than my own), but there is much to be learned by those aspiring to a career in song! At this price, it's an opportunity not to be missed - go on, let the moths out of your wallet!
