I'm not the biggest fan of 'Alright now' (the single) - it's become an albatross around their necks and the rest of the stuff offers so much more. This is the world's greatest band. Kossof's guitar subtle and holding long beautiful notes instead of "How fast can you play mate?". Rodgers has the greatest ever blues voice. Andy Fraser's bass is rarely mentioned but is a delight - enjoy Mr Big for some virtuoso stuff. And Simon Kirke - great when he's going for it although a bit too laid back at times. The writing was largely shared, particularly in the early days, and it's superlative. Don't buy the compilation - the original albums, as concieved, are so much more rewarding.

"Tons of Sobs" - a real roots blues anthology. This is the lads when they were teenagers but still fully accomplished; "Free" - Hot sunny days in the sixties with the outstanding 'Broad Daylight'; "Fire & Water" (Still available paired with "Heartbreaker"?) - solid and rocking blues with 'Heavy Load' living in your soul forever;"Heartbreaker" - spiritual tracks with an ideology you can live your life by - 'Easy on my Soul' evoking Koss with genuine affection and understanding; "Highway" - definitely the dud in back catalogue, collectors only; "Free at Last" - not the critics favourite but, for me, their tour-de force return album. Koss's sad farewell, as it turned out, but full of life & vitality when recorded, with 'Magic ship', 'Little bit of Love' and 'Sail on' being beautiful.

I have always been a believer in the good things in life - but they don't all come wrapped in cellophane yeah and they don't always ......... seem to turn out right. If that's meaningless to you go searching for it in the above.
