Top 100 Music Reviewer
Sometimes as a reviewer you encounter a gem of an album among the mounting pile in the corner. I must admit to giving this album a slight head start in that I had been meaning to catch up with Lucy before but never obtained a recording for review. From the opening track 'Written On the Back Of His Hand' penned by the lady herself the impressive soft shuffle percussion to the understated lead/steel guitar and Lucy's own gentle vocal delivery moved her straight into the league of Emylou Harris Spyboy and Suzanne Vega for me. On the slightly edgier Paul Brady cover 'Crazy Dreams' crossing into Pretenders style accompaniment the album already has the feel of a well worn glove. The lyric on 'Every Single Day' reflecting on an association with another performer (partner?) is a studied, insightful knowledge of the writer as an artist. Producer Ben Wittman oversees the project with a wistful underplayed hand that although subtle in construction will leave the listener with a pleasant amount of ear candy. Enjoy!
