By the time of this, their fourth album (1969 in the USA but 1970 in GB I think) Creedence (or rather John Fogerty) appeared to be getting a little fat and lazy or clichéd, depending on your point of view.

There's too much filler here, namely the shuffling instrumental "Side O' The Road" and the similar-styled but vocal shuffle of "Feelin' Blue", which isn't much better. A pleasant but insipid country version of Ledbetter's/Leadbelly's "Cotton Fields", along with a similar rendition of the traditional "Midnight Special" doesn't do much for the album or band's reputation either.

Standout tracks are the double A-side single (in USA at least) comprising the shuffling "Down On The Corner" backed with the storming rock & roll-style classic "Fortunate Son" and the equally good and similar "It Came Out Of The Sky", so good it was even covered in the 1970s (at least live) by GB rock & roll revival band Shakin' Stevens & The Sunsets.
