This album is very underrated-the only negative is that it is too short on time-about 35 minutes. At this period in time there was lots of progressive rock but this group keep to its tried and tested formula-simple country rock. There are a couple of stand out tracks-Fortunate Son and It Came Out Of The Sky-but there isn't a poor track on the whole album. To summarise,a great album, with some subtle political undercurrent, from 4 brilliant musicians.A must for your collection.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Largely mediocre mid-period Creedence with too much filler

By the time of this, their fourth album (1969 in the USA but 1970 in GB I think) Creedence (or rather John Fogerty) appeared to be getting a little fat and lazy or clichéd, depending on your point of view.

There's too much filler here, namely the shuffling instrumental "Side O' The Road" and the similar-styled but vocal shuffle of "Feelin' Blue", which isn't much better. A pleasant but insipid country version of Ledbetter's/Leadbelly's "Cotton Fields", along with a similar rendition of the traditional "Midnight Special" doesn't do much for the album or band's reputation either.

Standout tracks are the double A-side single (in USA at least) comprising the shuffling "Down On The Corner" backed with the storming rock & roll-style classic "Fortunate Son" and the equally good and similar "It Came Out Of The Sky", so good it was even covered in the 1970s (at least live) by GB rock & roll revival band Shakin' Stevens & The Sunsets. The only other half-decent track is the slow, rumbling "Effigy".

Overall then, four of ten tracks are good, the rest mediocre, which does not exactly make a good album. Time is on the short side too at only 35 minutes!
