Biggest waste of time since the Millenium Dome, I can't beleieve no-one has told Lou Reed that he can't sing, it's just a half-hearted mumbling into a microphone and it sounds rubbish against the now bombastic force that Metallica have become. What on earth are Metallica playing at.

You will either love this album or hate it!

Even as a die-hard Metallica fan, I read the other reviews on Play.com before purchasing, and after listening to the album a few times I really agree with each and every one of them (good and bad). As always, the musical depth you would expect from Metallica is all there, and there is a huge juxtaposition between this and the disturbing, but compelling lyrics delivered by Lou Reed. I thought this worked well, but can certainly understand it is a matter of taste.

This is not an ablum you can just listen to casually. It will challenge you as a listener - especially if you try to take on board the lyrics - which are shocking at times. However, anything worth having is worth working for and I think this album really delivers the rewards.

Lou Reed doesn't so much sing but narrate a story, and if you approach this album with an open mind and take it as a piece of art (if that doesn't sound too pretentious), then you are in for a treat. Enjoy!

I bought this album as I have every release that Metallica have ever done.......... however if you are not a fan of Lou Reed I would advise against buying it, the production is realy good as you would expect but the vocals are highlighted so much more than the music and hence you struggle to hear the band behind the vocals. I admit I have listened to it only once and it may be a grower :-)

  Something of a misfire...

I've given it a go, but this just doesn't work for me. Personally, I find the contrast between the style of Lou Reed and Metallica to be jarring. They don't mix well and it feels uneven. I'm all for artists maturing and exploring their musical boundaries, but this feels very much like a vanity project. That's not to say there won't be something to like about this album for some people, and maybe you have to be a fan of Lou Reed to really appreciate his vocal style... but it's a weak pairing against the power and distinctive tone of Metallica, and the 'broken' delivery of his lyrics was grating. I wanted to like it, and while I didn't hate it (after all, it's not pop music) I'm giving it a firm thumbs down!

This is a Lou Reed album not a Metallica album

This album to me is excellent, being a big Lou Reed fan, this is up there with best of his albums, this is not Lou singing Metallica songs, this is Metallica backing Lou, look else where if you looking for another boring Metallica album, buy if you're a Lou Reed fan, you won't be disappointed.

  Open mind.

Try opening your mind my friend. Remember it's something totally different and not just a Metallica project.

  Really? REALLY?

Just heard this album streaming on the official site. Wow. It's terrible, just shockingly awful. Anyone who's been a Metallica fan and forgiven them the dodgy last couple of albums surely won't be able to forgive this.

It really sounds mostly improvised and utterly shambolic. I'm amazed, and not in a good way.
