Recorded between 2005 and 2006, Whitesnake: Live... In the Shadow of the Blues is a high-octane, in yer face showcase, highlighting the talents of the latest incarnation of the band. All the glorious heavy rock clichés are here - screaming lead vocals, audience participation, blistering guitar solos and big endings - and very welcome they are too! Songs such as Bad Boys, Give Me All Your Love Tonight, Is This Love, Here I Go Again and Judgement Day come alive in a way that surpasses the original studio versions. Old favourites like Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, Take Me With You and Ain't No Love In the Heart of the City sound fresh and up to date - in a slightly retro sort of way! Many of the guitar solos are note-for-note renditions of the originals, which suggests that they are being treated very much as integral parts of the song. And I haven't even mentioned the monumental versions of Cryin' in the Rain and Still of the Night, or the medley of classic Coverdale-era Deep Purple songs!!! Of the newer material, the mesmerising Blues for Mylene has to be heard to be believed and the four new studio recordings (included as bonus tracks) give an indication of things to come. Without a doubt, this live album will please Whitesnake fans old and new. Especially if it's played nice and loud (but only when the neighbours are out!!!!).
