This box set gathers Simple Minds first 5 albums together. From the punk influenced Life in a Day to the electro pop of New Gold Dream. For me this collection has to be the best era of Simple Minds. This was the time when they were the ground breakers with songs like Factory, I Travel, Pleasantly Disturbed and the instrumentals Film Theme and Theme For Great Cities. There's no Don't You Forget About Me, Waterfront or Alive and Kicking, this is the time of Glittering Prize, Someone Somewhere In Summertime and Love Song and many other early hits. This is the era of the real Simple Minds.
The first five albums from Simple Minds are finally getting the credit they deserve. Each albums offers something different and the music still sounds just as fresh today. Pleasently Disturbed, Thirty Frames A Second, Celebrate, In Trance As Mission, I Travel and Chelsea Girl are just a few of the highlights, you'll be humming these tunes all day! And if anyone has recorded a better instrumental than Theme For Great Cities then i have yet to hear it. If you want to get started with Simple Minds you can't go wrong with this, X5 contains the lesser known work but captures arguably the bands best and most creative period.
