Like most fans i had given up on Eddie & Dave getting back together, but now nearly 40 years on they're back and have not disappointed us with this album. The world may have moved on but this still sounds as fresh as anything else out there.Eddie can still cut the mustard with his guitar work and Dave vocals are still solid.A decent return to form, lets just hope for more or at least a European Tout for VH fans to enjoy. :-)
I was so sceptical about new Van Halen release. Maybe it's still all about money; Van Halens and David Lee Roth are short of cash and want some more, so that's why comeback album and tour. But even in that case, who cares if music is this calibre.
There's lots of stuff written by the band already in the 70's, so this reminds me of their first 4 albums. It's rocking, it's powerful and it's got that flowing groove by Alex and Wolfie (or did Eddie play some bass lines?). It's got even guitar sounds and solos by Eddie that we have never heard before.
A Different Kind Of Truth is fine example how comeback albums should be done. It's so spirited and inventive that it really puts all these modern hard rock bands in shame. Yeah, we got beaten by almost 60-year-old guys!
I have read several reviews of this album and felt people were getting too preoccupied with the past. I listened to this before I bought it and decided it is one of VH's finest albums to date ( and I have them all!). Be open minded and give it a go....some fine tunes and true VH humour ( Stay Frosty)....I'm sick of all the picky comparisons....this is better than most new releases out there!
This reall y is an awful album, all the songs are dull, no decent solos, Van Halen have had their day. I bet Chicken foot are laughing their heads off as their last album was 100 times better than this pathetic excuse.
I have been VH fan for decades and for me this is the best VH album by a mile. Eddie's solos are the quickest I've heard yet and Dave's voice has inpoved beautifully with age and cigarettes maybe. Dave's lyrical strength has also improved with the clever Tattoo and Stay Frosty. This proves VH are still the kings of writing a three minute classic unlike the super talented Chickenfoot who I have the greatest respect for but cant write a catchy number to save their lives. Which is a real shame as I'm Joes biggest fan.
