A lot of the music press have likened this to mid-seventies Springsteen, but I'm really not sure. Yes, they have that same shambolic bar band feel the E Street Band used to have, and there are a lot of lyrics but still...
In the final analysis this band is more original than you may have heard. The music rocks, and the stories are real slices of life.
There are lots of memorable lyrics, and only 1 duff song (the final one, so it's easy to ignore).
Standout track? For me "Chill Out", a slightly off-key story of a brief romance between two drug abusers at a rock show is wonderful; loved Chips Ahoy too.
I saw Jesse Malin recently and he covered a song off this album (You can make him like you) to tremendous effect; this band has an impact.
Nice to see the first 2 albums are out in the Uk as well now; both intersting listens, but first time out, this is the one that you want.
