Very Strange - Sinister music with delicate sounds that haunt through to the soul. Bordering on a disjointed accord of different noises sensations that walk you through an emotional jounrney via walls of sound. Where as Sabbath slam the evil in with blocky riffs- this is delicate harmonies and orchestral pieces that fades in -slowly suffocates and then leaves no trace - pure evil. Anyone who knows Steve Wilson work will see how this relates to his 2 albums. Not PT - Not Opeth. Both guys here bring somethings different-distinctive - very self indulgent - creative to the table. Will irratate as many and possibly more than those of us than can relate to this.. and probably as intended. Musicians should push the boundaries and challenge sounds - well done
If the rumours are true that Wilson has folded Porcupine Tree to concentrate on his solo work and other projects and this is going to be the standard of his output then I'm afraid he's in trouble. Don't get me wrong, I love most of what he's done and I also love Opeth but come on guys, this is music to induce rapid sleep. I can't say how disappointed I am with this. By the way, whatever happened to the live recording that was supposed to be issued from the Albert Hall gig?
When I first heard about this coming together of two greats, I couldn't believe it. I was so looking forward to the album being released and I wasn't disappointed, its a beautifully created album and a true masterpiece.
I love this album, it's got such a variety of sounds in it- I can't stop listening to it!
It's even better as a special edition, I'd recommend this product to anyone, you can't go wrong :)
Even though this is an album from Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson and Opeth fronter Mikael Akerfeldt, do not expect many similarities with the two bands.
Storm Corrosion is a collaboration between the two (and including Gavin Harrison on drums), in which they go back to their inspirational roots and create haunting, beatifully simplistic pieces of music. The music is mostly guitar driven, but also includes pianos, woodwinds and orchestral arrangements.
Sometimes smooth, sometimes disturbing, as a whole it can at first seem like a challenging listen, but it is a rewarding experience.
