- Following on the heels of band-mate Duff McKagan's solo album, newest Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke's debut solo release, PAWNSHOP GUITARS, reveals roots which run deep into a foundation of T-Rex, the Rolling Stones, and the power-pop of groups like the Beatles and Cheap Trick. Chunky riffs and unabashed choruses abound, as do guest artists. McKagan appears behind the skins to round out a power trio of Clarke and ex-Pixie Frank Black on a cover of The Clash's "Jail Guitar Doors". The rest of G N'R also pops up on PAWNSHOP GUITARS: Slash's unmistakable leads drive "Cure Me Or Kill Me", while keyboardist Dizzy Reed's Mellotron mastery and drummer Matt Sorum's timely playing lend a "Magical Mystery Tour"-like air to "Black". Clarke's rendition of the Stones' "Dead Flowers" boasts producer Waddy Wachtel's lead guitar playing, Skid Row drummer Rob Affuso bashing away on skins, and W. Axl Rose pounding on a piano and contributing some unmistakable background vocals.
