On Nine Destinies and a Downfall, Veland has chosen to change the band from being a Beauty and the Beast type of gothic metal band into an atmospheric gothic metal band.
Once again Veland is switching to using a new singer. This time he has left the opera-like voice and gone for a more innocent girlish voice (the voice of Sinphonia). He also left out the growl on most tracks. Many fans have turned their backs on Sirenia for this reason, and even though I like the other records more, I don't think Sirenia has sold out at all. The music itself is still close to the music on the other records - only the voice is different.
I admit that the voice may seem a little annoying at first listen, but you'll quickly adjust to it and be able to take in the music in its entirety. Since the overall feel of the music has changed, you may want to stream a music video or two on youtube first to see whether or not you'll like it.
