This album offers a fresh new sound one which to hear you would know was Velvet revolver however different from that of the contraband era...
Its slash as his purest, if you want inspiration to pick up and instrument and just go mental heres the motivation you need from this bad packed with incredible talent...
Slash truley brings the 80s to the 21st century..
Just saw them play live tonight and got a preview of a few songs from Libertad and I must say I'm highly impressed! The songs wern't as full on as Slither etc but I definitely wasn't dissapointed, and I'm not a person who takes to new music well I need to listen to stuff a few times before i get into it but their new material definitely impressed!
Well after reading a rubish review in Kerrang! magazine.... i thought i'd still give the album a go. To be honest i hadn't really heard any of Velvet Revolver's music before.... but i can not explain how thrilled i was when i listened to the album! from start to finish, every track is a masterpiece!! listen to the album in full! and... get ready to rock!!! hell yer!!
Velvet Revolver blew the rock scene apart with their debut album Contraband and proved most critics wrong. There follow up album Libertad now establishes them as one of the biggest rock bands in the world today.
Its classic rock at its best for a new generation who missed out on great acts such as The Who, Rolling Stones and Guns N Roses. Opening track Let It Roll Is breathtaking from start to finish, relentless in its grand riffs. She Mine and Get Out The Door continue in similar fashion followed by the awesome lead single She Builds Quick Machines. But as much as this album is loud Velvet... show a softer side through The Last Fight that has classic written all over it. The album then continues to deliver what Guns n Roses fans have been waiting for... great songs about sex drugs and rock n roll.
Anthems such as American Man and Just Sixteen simply make you thank god Slash and co decided to remind us that rock and roll can be fun and not all depressing and dark. Gravedancer is an emotional and clever climax to an incredible album that really makes you appreciate Scotts depth lyrically and vocally, his range on this album is more cohesive than its predecessor. In fact, with all egos aside, their sound has matured and the music sounds as one, instead of the wild and sometimes chaotic sound of the first album (not to say Contraband isn't a great album, in fact it rocks just as equally).
The only flaw with this album is the hit and miss cover of ELO's Can't Get It Out Of My Head that sounds a little average to the original, more like a filler track.
This album has recieved mixed reviews but at the end of the day it represents what rock is all about. Great riffs, wild Solo's and over the top lyrics that this generation is in dire need of. Also, is there any greater feeling in rock than hearing Slash on the guitar again?
Thought not!
Disappointed on the first listen you will be. Try harder you must and enjoy more you shall. More Stone Temple Pilots than Guns n' Roses this is. Moments of genius there are but repetative lyrics also you will find. Superior Contraband is but let down by Libertad you will not be. May the force be with you.
