Alison Krauss is probably best known in the UK for her work on the O' Brother Where Art Thou' soundtrack particularly the song 'Down To The River To Pray', that track is included here as well as songs from other soundtracks that she's contributed to such as 'The Scarlet Tide' from Cold Mountain and 'I Give You To His Heart' from The Prince of Egypt.
Although those songs are probably the best known it's the new tracks to this album which really make it stand out and more importantly the way Krauss sings them. Her voice is absolutely stunning and she manages to get across a feeling of emotion that few singers can emulate. She never oversings a song, leaving the lyrics and her tone to portray the feelings of the song. This is never better shown than on the track 'Jacob's Dream' a track about two brothers who go and play in the mountains and end up getting lost. The truth is that this is a bluegrass album and if you think you don't like bluegrass you're probably never going to give it the chance it deserves. However, give this album a chance and you could well find yourself listening to the album of the year.
