I've been a big Aerosmith fan for many years now and as a result have been looking forward to this album.
The first single was promising then the second single, while being a ballad (as predicted), wasn't bad as far as ballads go and as we all know, there's always going to be a couple of cringe worthy, radio friendly tracks on the album. So as you could understand, I was a tad disappointed when I found that a lot of the album consists of mediocre ballads. The rock songs we would expect from the band are there, and when they are, they're great! It's just a shame that there isn't more of them given the 11 year gap in new recordings. It's clear that Tyler's American Idol residence has influence here too, as we get to hear him and his contestant, Carrie Underwood, duet together on the incredibly cheesey 'Can't Stop Lovin' You' which sounds like something they stole from Faith Hill/Tim McGraw.
Overall though, like I said previously, when the rock is there it's great, the opener, 'Luv XXX', shows that Joe Perry still has catchy riffs left in him and is one of my favourites, along with, 'Street Jesus' and 'Oh Yeah' and Steven's voice is sounding great, a lot more raspy these days which fits well and makes the songs sound edgy!#
Here's too many more years of a (hopefully less balladry) Aerosmith!
Finally the new Aerosmith album!
Music From Another Dimension, yes, cause they're really from another dimension!
They put all the different sides of their history in here... we can find old school RnR in songs like "Oh Yeah", "Out Go The Lights", "Street Jesus", "Freedom Fighter", we have power-ballads like "What Could Have Been Love", "We All Fall Down" and "Another Last Goodbye" and rock ballads like "Closer", we could find something "Beatlesque" in songs like "Tell Me", "Luv XXX" and "Something", and some songs like "Beautiful" and "Legendary Child" remind us some Aerosmith in their 90/00 period...
There is also a "country-crossover" duet with Carrie Underwood in the song "I Can't Stop Loving You".
Steven Tyler singing is magic, guitars are back on the first line, bass and drums kick-ass... all you wanna hear by the "last band standing on earth" is here!
A very good album!
