Fabulous album. Not as good as the first but definitely a grower. Beautifully arranged and well worth a listen!

before i bought this album i'd been hearing a lot of negative feedback, but i think its awesome. I dont think its quite as good as " The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager" but in all fairness thats hard to do!

great work sam!

This is a decent album, but not as good as his debut. He just seems to be trying too hard at times, such as on 'I could build you a Tower' which, while musically lovely, has appalling lyrics that just ruin the song if you pay attention to them! A nice album overall though.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Fantastic second album

Having thought his first album was very special and different, I was worried that he would experiment too much on this, his second, album. But no. Thankfully GCWCF manages to keep on board the fans who loved him for the catchy, upbeat, guitar-plucked melodies of 'Chronicles' - heard here in 'Postcards from Catalunya', 'Window of your Mind' and 'Find the Time' - while taking them in a different direction in 'Waiting for the Monster to Drown' and 'Could've seen it all'. 'Searching..' is more polished and has more depth and complexity than 'Chronicles' - strings often complement the guitar ( the 'trumpets' (thankfully!) remain) - but this more sophisticated treatment of the songs adds to rather than detracts from the melodies themselves. Sam, apart from being a skilled musician, can craft a good tune and these form the backbone to a mix of themes which range from the political - the haunting 'I could build you a Tower' (about war and weapons) and the latinesque 'Children are ..' (about consumerism) - to the personal 'Moving Forward' about the end of a romance, with many stops along the way. Duckworth's lyrics are at once poetic, simple - at times rough-hewn, but therein lies their charm - and archaic. They are complemented by a voice which ranges from raspy (at times almost raucous) on some tracks to heartbreakingly plaintive on others. Probably not as immediate as 'Chronicles' this album is more of a grower. This may explain a couple of disappointing reviews, but then again maybe it is because Duckworth (22) is writing for people of his age and from his background and not for world-weary, middle-aged, middle-class journalists. I have probably played it around 50 times since I got it last week and I keep finding new things in it each time. I thoroughly recommend it.

GCWCF returns with his second album a little over a year after his fantastic debut. Definitely an album to be purchased - despite maybe not being as ground-breaking as the first, this is still a very good record in its own right.

Despite not being quite as amazing as his debut, this album is far better produced and pushes more creative boundaries. With strings, samples of static and news broadcasts, further incorperation of live drums and sequenced beats and even the use of a theremin, this album is - without a doubt - far more experimental.

In summary, this is a fantastic collage of interesting new from Duckworth, capturing more of his creativity and talent. And with tracks like 'Window Of Your Mind' and 'Find The Time', it's definitely worth hearing.

Lastly, I'm tired of finding poorly written reviews on the internet, most notably one on Guardian.co.uk referring to 'Young And Lovestruck' as 'Young And Lovely'. Hopefully this small review has given people considering whether to buy this or not a better, fairer argument.

A superbe album! aurally thrilling to the senses, track after track of brilliantly recorded and well produced creativity, Sam does it again I think =] very different to the first album however, taking a much more relaxed yet classical approach to the first album.

Well worth buying no doubt about it, 5 stars!

Ok I have received a promo of this.

The first album in my opionion was chirpy, catchy and very different to anyone I've heard. I didn't know what to expect but these songs are very different they seem to have songs that have clever meaning. I COULD BUILD A TOWER- starts from a news clip of the verginia shooting ! then talks about extremesits and the wars in the world. And how we just stand still.

Amazingly he does this throughout the album, without creating a dull or boring song.

It is growing on me definitely ...

FIND TIME is catchy and probaly one of the best on the album, postcards of cataluyna sounds very similar to his sound in the first album which is great and is also one of the best on the album (just him and his acoustic.)

Waiting for the monster to drown - is quick, has a very computerised sound to it...

Album plays for 46 minutes and I have listened to every song at least twice without getting bored at all. Its worth a purchase & I might Have to Get Tickets Now !!!!
