 Sorry Guys

For all of those who've been going around with a little prayer in their stomach, ready to give this band one more chance after that HORRIBLE last record...hoping that they'll pull it off next time and do something with the vocals...

I'm gonna have to disappoint you. Im totally finished with this band now. It just feels so pointless going on now, when they sound like this...this wretched carcass of a band. They're just shadow of their old self now. Because the first thing that hits your ears when you put on "Ten Thousand Strong" is a wall of noise - the noisy and grotesque voice of Tim Owens! Throughout the entire song, this high pitch of a ravens caw continues to bug you til you either drop or turn it off! The remake of the Something Wicked-trilogy is neither particulary impressing and I must say I swear to the old version. The new one lacks punch, it lacks finesse and it lacks everything Iced Earth lost when they picked up Tim Owens.

This is a very sad day for me. I wish they would pull it off but they didnt. And they will probably never pull it off again until they ditch that glass-breaking abomination that is Tim Owens.

 Good Follow Up

After The Glorious Burden, a slight change of direction to this EP. Note that the opening track is actually 10,000 Strong and not Overture Of The Wicked. Tim Owens has now been replaced as Matt returns, so for Ripper fans, this is a must. Overall, this is a good starter before the Framing Armageddon main course, though most of it is repeated on that album anyway, so you don't need both.

Back to what Iced Earth Do best!

Ok, so The Glorious Burden wasnt great. It was good, but not great. I was as dissappointed as everyone else when Matt Barlow decided to leave, and was replaced by Tim Owens. Horrified when I heard the Reckoning. Horrified. But the album turned out ok, which is why i was always going to give the new stuff a listen.

The start to Ten Thousand Strong worried me a bit, but once you get past the initial screaming, the style of music seems to be heading back towards that of Dark Saga and Something Wicked. This is a good thing!

The covers of the Something Wicked trilogy are fantastic. But saying that, theyre still not as good as the originals.

So, overall, going back to what they do best, and doing it well.

Cant help but wonder how good it would be with Matt Barlow at the helm though.

And on another note, Matt Barlow has recently reappeared in a band called Pyramaze. Good luck to him!

This EP is a taster of whats to come form IE, which is a whole lot of metal up your ass, the last album "glorious burden" was amazing because of the direction that Schaffer chose to take. now that he is back where he has made his name, it will be even more fantastic. i myself am a big fan of Tim"ripper"Owens. in his judas priest days he was very well complimented and his own projects have done very well. i cant help but think some fans of iced earth may be a wee bit biased when it comes to the front man change. this EP is an amazing peice of work which any metal fan would be proud of putting there own name to. the album will be killer and im looking forward to the next instalment. Peace \m/
