Along with Miranda Lambert's CRAZY EX GIRLFRIEND,this is the best album of the year so far, even better than their last great album.

I got into Rilo Kiley in the states and picked up the album before Under The Black Light and was pretty impressed with the musical range that seemed to fall in no particular category so i was intrigued to see what the band had to offer in the new record. Rilo fans generally wont be disappointed! Again we see the band moving in directions that leave the listener wondering whats next. Funk, disco and electro beats as well as good old indie tunes pack the bill which will leave you fully satisfied not to mention lyrics that slowly unfurl the more you hear them. Under The Black Light is a real classic slow burner in the making that is sure to sit in ones collection with the best of them. I recommend this album because in my opinion its one of the best albums you will hear all year.

OK...

I wrote an intital review of this album based on some live performances i heard, however now that i've heard the album as a finished product i can't help but feel a little disappointed.

It reminds me of being a No Doubt fan for years then buying rock steady and thinking 'what's all this about?'.

There seems to be a bit of a disco influence here i don't particularly like...it's not that same raw flippant energy i'm used to from Rilo Kiley. They wanted to change there sound i guess...i'm gonna try hard not to judge this album so early as i'm pretty confident it will start to grow on me but i want the old school Kiley back!
