I'd slightly lost interest with Girls Aloud, particularly since their albums after Sound Of The Underground developed a 'softer' sound.
But whilst checking out the latest single 'Sexy! No No No...' i was intrigued to hear the rougher sound of the band.
'Tangled Up' has a running, upbeat theme throughout every track. But with different elements applied to different tracks.
An ambient feel is present in 'Crocodile Tears' and hit single 'Call The Shots', whilst a poppier sound is found in 'Close To Love' and 'Fling'.
But what i love most about the album, is the more dance-driven tracks such as 'Sexy! No No No...' and 'Girl Overboard'.
The girls also put their stamp on a more retro sound with 'Black Jacks' and 'I'm Falling'.
The album doesn't have any true failures, though 'What You Crying For' seems to have a less than memorable hook, and 'Crocodile Tears' takes a few listens to get into..
The main reason i put this to 4/5 is because of a little disappointment i felt when i received the album. I was really looking forward to an album of dance anthems, that followed in the footsteps of the singles, but 'Tangled Up' offers something different with each track, and as the saying goes 'There is something for everyone'.
Standout tracks: Can't Speak French, Black Jacks, Girl Overboard, Call The Shots.
