probably the WORST eminem album ever!!!! almost every song is woefully poor and is almost like he's trying to hard to be contreversial. im a big fan and love the first two mainstream albums (slim shady lp and marshall mathers lp) and had high hopes for this but the best song on it is "we made you" which just sums it all up for me. eminem is at his best when he is angry and dark with a humourous twist, but some this stuff is just gross for the sake of being gross and makes bizarre (d12) sound like a kids cartoon character!!!! honestly feel like ive wasted a tenner, eminem should have stayed in retirement, this certainly wont go down as a timeless classic, just hope dr dre and 50cents awaited releases are better than this!!!
overall 1/5 stars and thats only cos it wont let me give 0/5!!!!
The guys a genius and im a big fan, but even I didn't expect his return to be quite so strong. The new album is brilliant and a welcome return to form for Em. I wouldn't call 'Encore' a bad album neccessarily, but IMO I think it was a little below the high standards he had set for himself. Back to 'Relapse'....it also holds a good level of consistency throughout the record, meaning theres hardly a track you'll want to skip!
Anyway I won't talk for much longer and will let you listen and decide for yourself, but heres my little track review (not rated the skits hence the missing numbers)....
02 - 3AM 10/10 (Fantastic, dark opening to the album)
03 - My Mom 9/10
04 - Insane 10/10
05 - Bagpipes from Baghdad 9/10
06 - Hello 8/10
08 - Same Song & Dance 10/10 (Beat makes it a 10)
09 - We Made You 10/10 (Great release to announce his return. Catchy chorus, hysterical lyrics.)
10 - Medicine Ball 8/10
12 - Stay Wide Awake 8/10
13 - Old Time's Sake (featuring Dr. Dre) 9/10 (2 legends on 1 track, great colab!)
14 - Must Be the Ganja 6/10 (Don't rate this track)
16 - Deja vu 8/10
17 - Beautiful 10/10
18 - Crack a Bottle (featuring Dr. Dre, 50 Cent) 8/10
20 - Underground/Ken Kaniff 10/10 (Very, very good!)
That's what I think for now. Maybe some of my track scores will go up or down as I listen to them more, but that's how it is for now. What is safe to say is that Shady's back with a bang!
Cheers for reading, and I hope you enjoy the album as much as I did!
This is probably the most highly antispated album in years. Even if it turned out to be awful, Relapse would of sold out in every record store around the globe. Thankfully, Relapse isn't awful... infact it's actually one of his very best albums, if not the best. An amazing achivement for a man who has worked so damn hard to get back to living a clean, normal life. Love him or hate him, you've gotta respect him for that.
The highlights are (in my opinion):
€ 3 a.m.
€ My Mom
€ We Made You
€ Beautiful
€ Crack A Bottle
Not to say the rest are bad, infact every song is great in their own way. But these 5 are my personal favourites. Out of the 5 I've listed, Beautiful is my favourite. It's actually a superb piece of work and Em actually makes you realise that each and every one of us are beautiful in our own way.
This is alot better than Encore which was a bit of a dissapointment and it's on a par with Marshall Mathers LP and Slim Shady LP. A must buy, even if your not that big of an Em fan.
The title explains it all... Relapse is, in a word, Beautiful.
Relapse is an amazing album if your in to repetitive droning beats and lackluster, recycled lyrics. This album is a shockingly poor attempt at reclaiming the Rap crown. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason Eminem titled the album Relapse was because he Relapsed, collapsed and fell on his mixing desk thus producing half of the material used on this album. There is absolutely nothing groundbreaking about this album, and i know any person who has been a fan of Eminem for a long time will feel let down by this album. This has been extremely well hyped again by the Dre/Shady camp but fails to deliver anything substantial and just appears to be encore vol.2 with even more poppy sing-along songs with Eminem rapping/singing in a variety of annoying accents over a large part of the album. I have nothing against Eminem, I have purchased every one of his albums on/near to day of release and have been getting gradually more and more disappointed with each release and was so desperately hoping that this would be his personal return to form I had been waiting years for especially the with the way American Hip-Hop has been going the past few years. This sadly isn't it and I'm not sure if there will ever be an album from Eminem, that can rightly contend with The Slim Shady LP. I've given it 2 stars just on the fact that its still obvious Eminem is a extremely talented lyricist (even though this is far from his greatest), its just a shame that this is ruined by his poor attempts of singing, samey selection of beats, repetitive themes and to many chart happy songs. I feel harsh giving it it so a low score but i really don't think it deserves or warrants a mark any higher.
This album was the 1st of his that i got and i borrowed it off a friend after hearing We Made You and Beautiful which are fantastic tracks, and i was so shocked to find even more brilliant tracks on this album, including Underground, Deja Vu, Same Song & Dance and Hello really buy this album what ever taste in music you have you will not regret it and its for a bargain price as well!
