If you already like Prince (I mean really like him, not just the radio hits) you'll love this. It's not his absolute best maybe - that is probably Sign O' The Times, for me anyway - but it's a really funky, soulful collection, and there's NO ONE out there who gets even near to his level of songwriting and musicianship. He even has Maceo on Chelsea Rodgers!
If you don't already like him, this might not change your mind, because there's nothing new here. But if you like funk, then Chelsea Rodgers is bound to get you off your rear-end. If you like smoochy soul then Mr Goodnight is about as good as it gets. Only Marvin Gaye did sexy smoochy soul better than Prince, and sadly he ain't around no mo'.
The really great thing about Prince is that he hasn't softened up, gone sloppy or sentimental. If you didn't see him live at the O2, buy this CD and 3121 and Diamonds And Pearls and Sign O' The Times, and you'll get an idea of why he's the best.
