The opening few tracks are good (yet nowhere near his high benchmark)...Feeding of the 5000 is a cracking tune too! However, for me the album is ruined by a pathetic and lazy attempt to sell albums to liberals and student emo/hippy types via the track "illegal attacks!" Nobody likes war Mr Brown, but pandering to middle class white kids by whining about how unjust the Iraq war is and how evil the Israeli state is, just takes something away from this album. Completely ignoring the random Hezbollah rocket strikes on Israel, 9-11, 7-7, Madrid train bombing, recent attacks on airports, innocent hostages butchered etc etc!
He tries hard to make a political statement that people who like conspiracy theories, live in London and hate fox hunting and wear dirty clothes they got for christmas off their parent's credit card will be able to mosh to!
Pah! My first internet rant. I feel dirty.
everytime ian brown releases an album his former band is mentioned.i'm not gonna say their name as he surely has established a career out of their shadows.the world is yours, his fifth solo record and far and away his best, every tracks a winner, awash with lush orchestration and hip hop beats.the mans got something to say and he's a very interesting character, a national treasure ,and a near as god-damn genius.
I bought this cd just after xmas in the monster sale, but i'd of willingly paid full price. Brown trades in the brass band for an orchestra and gains Sinead O'Connor on the political and meaningful Illegal Attacks. Even if you can't stand Ian Brown you'll love this album. Surprised it didn't do better in the charts.
There is a sence that this album for once isnt the usual drug fueled, flowing lyrics of old ian brown there is much more maturity, in his choice of beats and lyrics, very much darker and blatentyl more political a certain for any ian brown fan!
Fantastic. From beginning to end, this album is a great listen :)
