  Great album

Recently bought the this one, just after I saw them live in Brussels and just after I bought the most recent album. Just love them, from the voice 'til the music and vibe!

For those who love their music.

I first heard this band on the radio And really liked them but didn't know who they were. Thankfully they said they were currently supporting Radiohead on tour so I looked them up and found this album. I'm so glad I took the time to do so. I find it very difficult to find new artists that aren't just clones of everything popular in the charts (see any band beginning with "The"). If you're a fan of artists like Zero 7, Portishead, or aqualung etc then I suggest giving it a go. One of the best albums I've had this year.

  Never grabbed me.

A new sound, as has been said before on these reviews it is quirky, original and shows a different use of instruments. However I always seem to find myself skipping to the next track half way through. Shows great potential for quality music but then stays at the same low intensity and doesn't really build up to a climax of any kind. I agree that she has an interesting voice but it never really grabbed me. I don't see this album making it into any sort of mainstream but for anyone looking for something different...here you go. But be warned, I am now listening to this album to send myself to sleep.

  i *heart* Bat For Lashes

this album was the best i'd heard in a very long time. musically its pretty different to anything else around at the moment. forget the Bjork/Kate Bush/Cat Power comparisons, they dont do the quality of this album any justice. While i like all of the previously mentioned artists, i honestly much prefer Bat For Lashes.

Trophy is menacing and dark, The Wizard showcases Natasha's brilliant voice, Sad Eyes is a moving tearjerker while Priscilla is the albums' catchy ray of light.

this is an album that on repeated listens, reveals more and more to the listener with each play. i cant wait for the follow up! oh, and they're excellent live as well.

Not many albums can be described as unique and this runs as close to that description as you can get. It's a haunting mix of beautiful voices and interesting instruments.

For me she should have won the mercury music prize as this album is miles ahead of Klaxons in quality and originality.

  A real grower...

Quirky and original, 'Fur and Gold' is the debut album for Bat For Lashes (stage name for Natasha Khan). Recalling the vocals and feel of early Nico, 'Fur and Gold' has a very stripped down sound and uses unusual backing instrumentation such as harpsichord on 'Horse and I' and clapping (it's cheap, it's safe) on 'Trophy'. My favourite track is 'Trophy' - a cute, but incomprehensible, little ditty that has a strangely addictive life of its own. Incidentally, and here's the trivia bit, it also contributes the album title via its lyrics. Buy it, bear with it and, ultimately, love it.

  Outstanding Album!

I saw Bat for Lashes perform live on the Mercury awards program and was blown away by their performance. On the strength of that I purchased this album and what can I say to describe just how good this breakthrough band is?

The voice of Natasha Khans is both haunting and majestic. You get sucked into the songs by her voice and combined with the offbeat hypnotic rhythm and powerful lyrics I'd recommend this brilliant album to anyone looking for something a little different.

Though this obviously won't be popular with the masses if (like me) you enjoyed their performance on television I'd buy this album. You won't be disappointed.
