Theres no point getting this, fans will already have the songs and the dvd footage anyway, and if you buy it you'll miss out on all of the other zeppelin classics that didnt make the cut. If you wanna get into Zeppelin get led zep 2, 4 and Physical graffiti and after listening to them you'll get the other albums cause there that good!
an ideal starting point for newcomers to zeppelin, or if you want a cd of most of the better known tracks. but if you have heard the zeppelin albums you will know that this cd still lacks many classic tracks. if i were to buy a zeppelin collection, then i would go for the remasters 4 cd set. its 4 cd's and has 54 tracks. for as little as £15.99 if you shop around, its a better choice. the dvd is ok, but led zeppelin 2003. a 2 dvd set, is the best dvd available. depends how much you want to spend. all in all mothership is as good as it gets in a small package. but it may leave you hungry for more.
This has got to be one of the best albums ever released. It is simply amazing. 2 cds of some of the greatest rock songs ever recorded.....and not only that but a dvd of live performances! The guitar playing of Jimmy Paige, the singing of Robert Plant, the bassing of John Paul Jones and the epic drumming of the deceased John Bonham are simply stunning. Kashmir, Stairway to Heaven and Achilles last Stand simply define rock itself. If you buy one album all year, make it this one. *****
The remastering makes the music even better and who cares that the songs are the same, the reworking makes listening seem like it's new material. On occasions the pedal of the kick drum can be heard to squeak just before the drum beat, it's that good, REALLY !!!!
How can I put this? Is this album new? No Does it have my favorite song on it? No.Is it as good as buying the first four albums? Maybe it is. See for a new generation (remasters was nearly ten years ago) this is an easy in to Zep. It's got most of the big hitters that us old ****'s keep going on about. And the point Jimmy Page made was that it was run through the new digtal processes that weren't available until recently. The Beatles did it with one and no one got that upset. (OK the Beatles tweeked things around but you get the picture....)
Buy it - I did. Like I'll buy the "new" song remains the same. Like I'd have sold a kidney to attend the concert. Because at the end of the day, LIVE, there has never been a band to match them. Oasis at Knebworth - not even close. Queen at Wembley in 86? Not bad, 9 out of ten. But the hi hat intro to Rock and Roll at MSG in 1973 and the set that followed - oh baby!!! Not live it's the same thing - the best. Bored, fed up or in need of a lift it's Zep I go for everytime. But interested in finding out what the fuss was about and faced with the catalog of songs your not sure about, what do you buy first? This is it!
Oldies with all the albums - you can live with out this. Newbies - buy it - enjoy - find out what all the fuss was about and then - then you'll be able to discover the rest.
