Do You Like Rock Music

This equals if not betters BSP's debut and represents a return to form. The reviewer who refers to Coldplay by way of comparison needs to broaden their blinkered horizons. See reviews in the music press for confirmation. AMG, a site compiled by musicians and industry professionals, give this the resounding thumbs up and a rare 9/10. Best album of the year so far.

I have been a fan of many a band in my years on this earth, some have come and gone, some have stayed, some were of different genres but nearly all have one thing in common, they failed to produce at album three.

British sea power have always surprised and excited me, but this is the biggest surprise yet a quality 3rd album! right from the off you will be sucked in by the warm christmas glow of the intro "all in it" then thrust in to the 80`s indie/rock trio of "Lights Out..","No Lucifer" and the heavenly "Waving flags".

One thing i have always found with British sea power`s albums, is that because of their broad range of styles on offer, their albums are always paced perfectly and this is the case here too. Around half way comes the euphoric and Sigur Ros-esq "The Great Skua", then after the fantastic "Atom" electrocutes your ears and "No Need To Cry" makes you...cry but with faint optimism, the album is rounded off with the almost too simple but very effective "Open The Door" and "We Close Our Eyes" (basically a companion song to "All In It").

This is by no means a perfect album, but as i write im hard pressed to think of one that is or even how you could make this album better, and with such strong songs like the ones mentioned, the fantastic football themed "Canvey Island" and the urgent indie rock epic of "Down On The Ground" you wont care about that as you go back for your 4th listen in a row and a satisfied smile on your face, confident that you have just bought the best album of this year.

I hadn't heard anything by British Sea Power before this album. I'd heard the name banded around in the odd music magazine but knew nothing of who they were. I picked this album up one night in the supermarket for no other reason than it looked like the only half decent record amongst the chart tripe. I got it home, put it on and was truly blown away. Don't listen to anyone who says this is an awful album! It may not be perfect but it's not too far off. Personal favourite is 'Lights out for Darker Skies' closely followed by 'No Lucifer'. Insanely catchy tunes from a classic British band! Get lost Kooks!!!!

What an album. Heavier than Open Season but just as good. 4 tracks in and I had already decided I love this album. Some previews were right saying it is an early contender for album of the year as it is just fantastic. The guitars are great and it really grabs hold of you so you listen to it all, not just a few tracks here and there.

the music: poorly produced (no bottom end, and the rhythm section is lacking), the guitars are uninspired and drone. if you like music to march to then this'll be a good album for you, if you prefer to put a little swing into life then look elsewhere.

lyrics: very '6th form', lacking melody and originality - they do fit the music, but is that enough of a reason to use them in a song?

they write their own songs, play their own instruments, make vague references to the past, and are better than coldplay (just to clarify here - i don't like coldplay, nor listen to them. mentioning coldplay is merely a means by which to measure how good or bad this band are - they are better than them, but that means very little when coldplay are so bad. going the other way and listing that they are worse than animal collective, big john patton, gong, kevin ayers, blind willie mctell, gene clark, tickawinda, the staple singers, lambchop, bonnie prince billy, brian eno, the majestic arrows, oakley hall, ronee blakley etc... would show my musical knowledge off, yet not make my point clear - it did leave me open to a comment about expanding my musical knowledge, but then i'm not the one that likes this tosh, so yarbo-sucks to you). but, does that mean they are any good? i say, 'no' - but, then i must be an elitist snob, i guess.
