I thoroughly enjoy this album, his musical influences shine through in dramatic, fantastic, musical illustrations of his work.
'The stars don't even matter'...Clever, eh?

I brought this CD in it's first week on release, after being impressed by what i had heard of 'Black & Gold'. Im sure this is the case for most people.
You won't be dissapointed if you like Sparro's hugely radio played debut single 'Black & Gold', i can almost guarntee you will like the rest of the songs, bearing in mind the fact that the majority have a classic disco vibe to them with a mix of electro beats & some have hints of rnb.
There is no doubt about the talent of Sam Sparro & his vocal chords. Even the most critical listener can't say that this album doesn't display how soulful & powerfull Sparro's voice is, espically demonstrated on the hidden track 'Still Hungry'. Something that can't be said about the likes of Mika.
Standout tracks include Sally, Hot Mess, Cottonmouth & of course the original version of Black & Gold which sounds much more unique than the radio version which seems slightly more slow & significantly less electro. The record also has it's share of quirky lyrics, my favourites being 'you must have thought i was your snack, as you're sticking to me like clingwrap' & 'although your lavish life might appear delicous, but not particularly nutritious.'
If i had to sum up my opinions of Sam Sparro, based on this record i would describe him as a unique more soulful & disco version of Mika.

I went out to get the single 'Black and Gold' which was out of stock, so I took a chance and bought the album, I am So glad I did, brilliant beats and funky dance tunes- a lot like Prince and Scissor sisters. Awesome. And I got tickets for his Gig in London... Buy it now!!!!!!!!!!

Obsessed with "Black & Gold" Like alot of people I know, I was anticipating this album. I was impressed by the smoothness of his voice (A lot like Gnarls Barkley) and the funky beats he laid out on it (A lot like Scissor Sisters). These two aspects work very well for Sam Sparro, and I think he has a promising year ahead of him. Stand out tracks for me are: Hot Mess, Too Many Questions & Sick. The only reason why he has gotten 4 & not 5 stars from me, is because as good as the album is, no track can stand up to the brilliance of "Black & Gold".
Top electro rock

Sam Sparro has defined the meaning of electro/pop music in this album. "Black And Gold" must be the best one there right now with its cool bass line, along with Waiting for time, Pocket and Too many questions. If you like pop music mixed with some electro, you need this album!
Funky!!

If you like Black and Gold you will like this album! There's some really funky electro sounds on here which I am loving! A really addictive, listenable album... Reminds me abit of Jamiroquai and some other funk legends. "Clingwrap" is one of my favourites!! Crazy lyrics...
enjoyable
