  Brilliant album

Songs are powerful, fresh and extremely well played sang. Production great. Break was useful for AB. The best so far from whole AB collection for me. Must have it

  Best album yet!

As epic as prime Led Zep and as thunderous as peak-form Sabbath, Cry of Achilles and Calm the Fire are lessons in how to write melodies that strum the heartstrings while refusing to rein in the balls-out instincts that have made Alter Bridge such a hit with mainstream rock fans and the metal community. Meanwhile, ballads such as Lover exhibit an emotional efficacy that takes the breath away

  Vastly Superior To AB III

Short and to the point:
Fortress is an incredible improvement on Alter Bridge's previous instalment, AB III, which sadly fell foul of the "third album curse" owed to a stiflingly tight schedule attributed to the Creed reunion and Slash's world tour.
But no such constrictions have applied this time around.
Fortress is an outrageous powerhouse of soaring vocal melodies, great pounding bass and Tremonti's instantly recognisably signature guitar style, which all come together to forge a truly great album.

Having said that, Fortress doesn't hold a candle to Blackbird.

Alter Bridge have hit the heights with this one. Heavier and more powerful than previous releases this is their 'metal' album. Full of amazing riffs, soaring solos and the usual great vocals from Myles Kennedy this album kicks! There's a few surprises such as Mark Tremonti taking lead vocals on Waters Rising and Myles falsetto vocals on the intro to Calm the Fire and the occasional guitar duel between the pair especially on the epic title track 'Fortress'. With Scott Philip's amazing power drumming and Brian Marshall at his best on bass this band is right up there with the best. If you've been with them from the beginning you will see how they've changed over the years. This album is definitely the hardest yet but it soars in all the right places. Awesome!!!!

Managed to give this recording a sneak preview at work as Metal Hammer are streaming it :) Usualy on a new CD it takes a while to get hooked, not with this however, each track starts with a fab opening, leading you gently into absolutely stunning work. I would have to say that this is heavier than previous work and with stome stonking riffs....Mark sings on one track and its a good effort. I can hear snippits of Zep, Creed, even some guitar sounds akin to Slipknot! I cannot wait for the release date and to turn this up to 11....
