I must say that I was more than a little surprised when I sat down and listened to this album. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that it's vastly surperior to 'Slip of the Tongue' and almost as good as '1987'. Without a doubt it has the loudest and heaviest guitar sound I have ever heard on a Whitesnake album and at times, the guitarists evoke the sound and spirit of John Sykes and Steve Vai (if that is really a good thing!). That's not to say that their playing is unoriginal, just that it will please those who discovered the band via these late '80s albums and still rate them as the best.

On the whole, the songs are good, some extremely good, and compare well with the best of Whitesnake's back catalogue. David Coverdale's voice has changed a little over the years, well he is 56 now!, and although he may not quite have the range he used to, he's still capable of showing most of the new pretenders how it should be done!
