From the grinding riff of 'Best Years' to the Gaelic feel of 'Til the End of Time', this is an astonishing return to form from a band that never ceases to surprise and amaze! By now, many people will be familiar with the epic power ballad 'Lay Down Your Love' and this is no bad thing, as this is pretty much representative of the majority of this album. Blistering guitar solos, a colossal wall of sound, imaginitive drumming and rock solid bass, all topped off with Mr Coverdale's distinctive vocal talents and tongue in cheek lyrics. This will surely stand as one of Whitesnake's better albums and, as such, I have no hesitation in giving it a well deserved 5 stars!

What is sistermary on about? Two very negative reviews of a superb album! Cov sounds as good as ever, with the BEST band line up in Whitesnake History. The band are AWESOME with the real star of the CD the Criminally under-rated Doug Aldrich burning the fret board.
Can't speak highly enough of this album.

Its been many a year since the 'Snakes put out an album of this quality.
Its just a shame that the short comings of Coverdales voice are beginning to show through. Not as much as it did on the Restless Heart album, but the rasp has definately lost a bit of its edge. Which is just enough to take away the fifth star.
Otherwise this is a storming return to form that should please a lot of people.
Not sure about the pre-1987 crowd though. They would most likely take off another star or two...
Coverdale is back to his glorious BEST!!!!

The master is back! Stand aside Mr Plant and Co, for a guy who is in his late 50's, Coverdales voice has stood the test of time, and this album is testament to that. With such a tight band of Aldrich and Co behind him, Coverdale delivers the lung busting vocals that make him one of the best male vocalists around. The album has hints of Lizzy and AC/DC on a couple of the tracks, but it totally delivers the Whitesnake mix of bluesy, heavy rock. If this is to be Whitesnakes last studio album, then its one hell of way to go out.

while most rock bands that have been off the radar for so long and make a comeback with new material ends up sounding like a rehash of their best hits without coming up with something new but Dave Coverdale shows how much he cares for the fans by coming up trumps with a new Whitesnake album that is the sort to turn up the volume and play it loud.
like most of his albums in the snakes impressive back catalogue its balanced by the choice of material thats on board like 'The Best Years' is the band at their most sprawling and grandiouse while 'Call on Me' is set from the same mould whilst adding humour to the tracks like "Got what you need" with the lyric starting off as "Ey Up" which shows the COV has'nt entirely lost his North Yorkshire roots.
Yet last but not least "All for love" which begins like a Thin Lizzy track, all chiming guitar and half- spoken Lynottisms before developing into a quintessential Whitensnake romp.
i star for the album more like 5.

Having been a Coverdale/Whitesnake fan since northwinds, i am so dissapointed in this. It sounds like they just played the first tunes they could come away with and put lyrics on it, which are at best cliched. Coverdale has lost his way and even one star is too much. Too bad to be good woud have been a good title.
