I was a huge Darkness fan and gutted when they split. When i heard about the new band some time ago i decided to go and see them live - very different and very awesome.
I then got the album and it has been the only album for some time that has remained to hand. First listen was great and it does get better. I've also managed to convert many other people to it and all like it.
The reason i write this now is that they are about to release a single which is one of the strongest from the album and i hope this gets everyone noticing the album.
Enjoy.
Fantastic 1st Album from the newly formed Stone Gods, true Phoenix from the Ashes stuff!
Who'd had belived Richie Edwards roadie to Rock Star sucess.
So "Stand up, Load up and Fire away now!" and part with your money.....soon!
Well, well, about time. An album that delivers proper old school metal and rock with intelligence and wit. Like the Darkness its wears its influences proudly on its riff laden sleeves. You can feel the love for all the albums and bands that have influenced the musicians on this record. Don't be misguided into thinking its just ripping it off though!!! ALL the songs here sound fresh and energized with that all important sense of humour - its sounds lovely and British too......Rock and metal need more releases like this - stomping all over so called nu-metal and putting classic, passionate and driven heavy rock music back where it belongs - this album deserves to be massive............
its still a decent album, good riffs (ac/dc style) good sing along big choruses and decent tunes. The only thing that lets the album down is Ritchie Edwards very poor lyrics (mainly in the verses) His name sake (ex manics) would be turning in his grave (or wherever he may be!) at these lyrics. Dan Hawkins comes into his own as a guitarist with some great riffs and some good solos. Its a grower and i would recommend anyone who likes their rock with a poppy flavour to pick this record up.
I bought this album today and was really hoping it would be a good buy... i wasn't disappointed. The record has an old-skool feel to it similar to Def Leppard and Brian Adams, but still manages to bring something new to the table. The two tracks that were released prior to the album ('Burn The Witch' and 'You Brought A Knife To A Gunfight') really stand out as the rest are generally a little slower paced, but there are no fillers present here! I recommend this album to anyone that loves the classic rock and wants to get away from the mundane dirge that is so popular these days. A great album.
