Joe keeps on ploughing the same old furrow with this album.whilst it has its moments, these seem to occur when the guitar is more restrained on the slower songs like 'come on baby'.there is some use of conga and sax,and the last track even has some Spanish influence in the opening minutes until Joe mucks it up again with his over indulgence.Joe,we know you're a great guitarist, but sometimes less is more.on the self-titled 'joe satriani' album, there was evidence of joe trying something a little different,a more paired back and bluesy sound.he also surrounded himself with some quality musicians, and this was reflected in the final result, perhaps his finest album next to 'blue dream'oh,and finally joe, please keep away from godawful chant songs like 'i just wanna rock'.you are better than this guitar-by-numbers dross

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars This CD does pass muster - recommended.

I have been a Satch fan since 1990 and the 'Flying in a Blue Dream' days, I have all his CD's and yes I am a fan! Some are better than others of course (I was not keen on 2006's 'Supercolosal' but then again why should he keep churning out the same old stuff. He surely has to develop as an artist. CD's such as 'Crystal Planet' and 'Engines of Creation' were a little bit different and demonstrated this- and why not!? For me they sounded all the better for it. The new CD is a return to Satch being creative, the songs are not as you expect, and there is certainly no guff such as the awful 'Crowd Chant' from 'Super Collosal'. This is not a rehash of what has been done before, there is subtelty & depth here and well crafted songs which seem to blend into each other - I don't think the skip button will be used much here. A cracking CD which will impress.
