All Hope Is Gone

This is a very good album, my only disappointment is that i know slipknot are capable of better. You will not be wasting your money if you purchase this album, it is well worth the money! The only reason i have not rated this at 5 stars is because a couple of the songs are only average by slipknots standards.

When I heard Psychosocial I was so excited about the new album...it's possibly one of my favourite 'knot tracks..but I must say I'm a little disappointed with All Hope Is Gone. It's too much like a Stone Sour record. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Stone Sour, but I wanted Slipknot! I wanted the overpowering energy and chaos that set them apart and, yes, Psychosocial is awesome but it's not enough... However I cannot wait to hear some of the new stuff live in December..I went to Reading just for them and they had to pull out..I haven't thrown a tantrum like that since I was 5 and my cousin cracked my Goonies video in two!

Okay so bands change and evolve as they go on. If they didn't, you'd just get bored of hearing the same old stuff.
Slipknot's self titled debut was fantastic, and Iowa - less speed rapping, more suffocating growls and screams was an absolute gem of an album that will forever be one of my favourite albums.
Volume 3 was good; well written songs expertly performed ... but it just wasn't Slipknot.
By many standards this is a great album, but in the same way that Volume 3 was great. There is still something missing ... and the band have failed to retain that something special that catapulted them to stardom with their first 2 releases [Mate feed kill repeat excluded as Corey was not the lead singer at the time].
All hope is gone is a fantastic song, and shows why slipknot are regarded as highly as they are. Psychosocial is the radio friendly 'alternative' single, and it is again a good song, similar to vermilion off the last album. Great choruses make you want to sing along on sulfer and wherein lies continue, whilst snuff is just a gorgeous ballad. A lot of the songs however would be more at home on a new stone sour album.

Basically, this album is filled with soaring choruses, phenomenal percussion, crushing vocals and brilliantly performed guitar parts, which are essentially all that you should need to produce a good album ... which is what this is.
Unfortunately for me though, Slipknot don't have that same edge that attracted me to them in the first place.

Buy it, it's good, just don't expect to be hooked.

As a maggot for 8 years now I have been blown away by everything they have ever done, In my opinion their self titled album sums up best what slipknot are, fast, shouty and really technical and it has been by far my favourite album for the last 8 years. Iowa was good but I missed the rap feel to the record and I think it was more of a statement to the world over the fans. Then came the subliminal verses which reminds me of kings of leon's "because of the times", a real sign of the growth and maturity of the band. After the euphoria of "volume 3" and the anticipation of "all hope is gone" I am really unhappy to say that after years of waiting I am disappointed. I read so many interviews with joey and corey saying that the world will not be ready for this record and that it is their best work yet. I'm sorry guys but it just isn't. Don't get me wrong, I love psychosocial and sulphur is a masterpiece but where is the "spit it out" of the album? or the "duality?" or the "wait and bleed?", the songs that will never be forgotten? They're just not there.
To sum up I would say that with any band the key is to stick to what you know and in my opinion slipknot has tried to go too experimental and they really haven't pulled it off.
A good album definately, but a great album definately not.
I just hope they release something else because if this was slipknots last album and legacy, as a maggot I would feel let down.

I think it's really cool and brave of them to take a softer edge to their music. Yeah, there is still a lot of shouting but there are a few more songs that just rely on Corey's great voice. The 3 tracks that really stood out for me were Psychosocial, Dead Memories and Snuff.
