When I first got this I thought that it revisited too much of the Manchester scene. Bits of everyone from the Smiths, Buzzcocks to Oasis and all manc points in between are prominent across the whole album.
Then after a few listens it started to click.
The Courteeners are actually so much more than just the sum of the influences that they wear on their sleeves.
There's a common thread throughout that's there own sound. The influences could be described as the clothing layered over the body of the songs. Underneath them is a passion and anger that is the solely The Courteeners. It's an album worth delving into, and with a bit of patience it's a grower.
I've went from not being that impressed to considering that it may be one of the best albums of 2008.

couldn't have asked for more with this album. especially with the original recordings on disc 2. the northern accent thats so distinctive in every song does it for me. i just cant get enough of this band and their live performances. something great has come out of Manchester after years of waiting. the band has some great fast, pacey tunes like Fallowfield Hillbilly but then dums it down a bit with the slow ones like Please Don't and Yesterday, Today and probably Tomorrow. defiantely a band to look out for in 2008 but i feel like if this album doesnt do well then that could be that for the Courteeners. buy this album and you will not regret it
