 What another Best of/compilation??

Right let's get one thing straight - there is no problem with the music that's on this album, every track is worthy of your attention and can rightly be called a "classic". The problem I have is that EMI, now they've lost most of their major artists, seem to see Maiden as a cash cow to milk until it bleeds! I have, frankly, lost count of how many compilation albums Maiden have now put out and I'm pretty sure a lot of fans, like me, have every single track on this album at least once, digitally remastered or not - I think I'm up to 9 versions of "Iron Maiden" now. Yes the 80's were Maiden's golden years and Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Killers.. etc are/were by far their best albums, so if you really want the best of the 80's Maiden go buy the individual albums instead!
In summary - 5 stars for the music, 1 star for the cash in!!!

5 for the music, 3 for the album

Yes, it's Iron Maiden, yes they are the biggest and best metal band of all time and yes, everyone should have all these songs in their collection, but to be honest, this is not the best way to hear them.

If you want to hear all but three of these tracks (Wasted Years, Can I Play With Madness and The Evil That Men Do) played like they were meant to be played, ignore this release and instead invest in a copy of the 1985 album 'Live After Death'.

Maiden live is Maiden how Maiden should be heard. No overdubs, no re-takes, just the best band in the world giving it everything in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Of course, once you have heard the album you will feel compelled to go straight out and buy all their studio albums, but don't worry - this is a natural reaction to hearing the best album from the best band the world has ever seen!

A album of classic songs from a classic metal band

Whilst we witness the production of "another" Maiden Best Of, people should appreciate why this compilation was put together - to introduce Maiden's ever growing number of young fans to their extensive back catalogue of arguably their best and most successful decade.

Whilst I, like so many others have these songs sometimes twice or three times over on the individual albums or other "Best Ofs" (Best of the Beast, Ed Hunter or Edward the Great) this is no doubt a classic collection and one just to complete the collection....
(Look out for the Ltd Ed. Picture Vinyl too)

For the younger fans this is the one to buy. All the Maiden songs to remember (most of which were heard in their full glory on the recent Somewhere Back in Time World Tour).

Maiden are a band that continue to redefine the standards in Heavy Metal music and production, who treat their fans continually to new tours, albums and merchandise and this album stands to represent their contribution to this genre.

Do yourself a favour and invest in this album!

All the real fans have these anyway, but oh well!

Yeah, who else bought this album despite knowing most songs, or every song, already? There are a few Maiden compilations kicking about, but this one is fantastic. It still throws me when I listen to it and 'The Trooper' starts after a load of 'Powerslave' stuff, though ... But the album is Maiden's best years, in my opinion. But a great introduction to new fans? New fans should go and buy the albums! This is cheating!

This album is for those who are new to Maiden. Is it worth buying? yes. Its a good introduction to one of the best bands in this world. However it doesnt stop here.. If you're serious about metal and Maiden then dont wait long before purchasing their whole discography.
