Paul Wellers new album is a mixture of very likeable mix es of influences, folk, world ,mod, jazz, pop, rock are all thrown into the mix,
the influences of Traffic and Steve(S) Winwood and Marriott are still there, but to that you can add a little bit of Krautrock,a smidgeon of the late great Ronnie Lane (Black river) and you have a potent mix'
This is his first album back on Island and the whole atmosphere reflects the era when this label was at its best.,The music reminds me of long summer nighs(hence my title)
Occaasionally Wellers rock roots come to the fore, and its great to hear that he hasn't lost any of his bile and venom, when he needs it
indeed theres a track on this that sounds similar to "The witch"by The Rattles a mid Sixties Hit that still sounds good..
The one thing that i would question though is the production,on some tracks particularly the fast ones it sounds muddy, however this is just a small point.
In consequence it is great to report that Weller, like Steve Winwood and Mick Hucknall has produced another fine album.

I am a huge Weller fan, but I am the first to admit he has not hit the heights since "Illumination" but with 22 Dreams he is back to his best. A wide variety of sounds here ranging from self indulgent to absolutely stunning. Boy the man is back at his best.

Can't wait for this bad boy, I'm sure Weller has thought of some great material!

Note that the track 'God' is entirely spoken word!
